New Release YA Fantasy: First Rider from the Lands of Ayrenia Chronicles by Katie Thornton-K

This week's Fantasy and Sci-fi Network new release spotlight is from Canadian author Katie Thornton-K. First Rider, the third novel in her series Lands of Ayrenia Chronicles: A Bloodline Saga Novella, was released on August 8, 2014.

Lands of Ayrenia Chronicles:

 A Bloodline Saga novella:

FIRST RIDER

Owain Ira'Aed travels with his parents to his mother's homeland, Kyprago, to see his dying grandfather, the king. Once there he uncovers a conspiracy to take over the throne and must act in order to save his family.

From the book First Rider...

Aro Skintalla entered the room, his black Mage robes sweeping around his long legs. He carried a black Mage staff in his left hand. His black hair was slicked back out of his round pale face. His dark eyes cast about the room quickly, taking everyone in. They stopped last on Gemma, and an expression of derision crossed his face.
“Princess Gemma,” Aro said sarcastically as he bowed to her. “Welcome home.”
Owain watched the exchange, noting that his grandfather had stopped talking to watch as well. This must be the Mage Mother was supposed to marry, Owain thought. No wonder she ran away with Father.
Aro’s gaze fell on Riley, and a look of hatred crossed his face.
“Ambassador Riley.” Aro nodded in recognition before turning to look at the king. He saw Owain sitting there. “And who are you?”
Owain stood up and straightened himself. He was taller than the Mage by several inches, his shoulders far broader as well. He was not afraid of the little dark man.
“My name is Owain Ira’Aed,” he told the Mage.
“Prince Owain Ira’Aed,” the king corrected him. “Gemma’s son.”
The Mage frowned and turned away. “The king needs to rest now,” he called back. “In peace!” Then he was gone.
“I never liked that man,” the king whispered to Owain. “I should have fired him years ago.”

Bloodline
Book 1

The Lands of Ayrenia was once a place that flourished with Magic until the Cataclysm, an event that eradicated all Magic. Three hundred years have passed since, and the gods seek a way to bring Magic back into the dying world. They choose Braelyn, a young girl, who is captured by pirates and sold as a slave to a gladiator house. Born to a warrior clan, Braelyn uses the skills her father taught her to rise in the ranks as a gladiator in order to earn her freedom. If she survives, the gods have great plans for her.

Red Dragon
Book 2

The bloodline of a god lives on... Two women, both unaware of their true heritage, and both with Magic within them, learn to control their gifts and use them for good, as they fight against those who threaten the lands of Ayrenia. The sequel to Bloodline brings two new strong heroines, Autumn Storm and Tessa Oak, to follow in the footsteps of Braelyn. What will they have to sacrifice to keep their world safe?

Coming in 2015...

Three hundred years have passed since Tessa Oak walked Ayrenia.
The future she foresaw has come to bear.
The Cult of Purity dominates most of Ayrenia. Their only purpose is to cleanse the lands of those who use Magic. Standing in their way is Hunter Storm, who was given a task by The Oracle: letters telling him who to save and who needs to meet. But one of those letters told of four very different heroes who would come together to save Ayrenia. The Dragon Rider, the Elf, the Mage, and the Metallic Dragon. Some were completely opposed to Magic and others had no idea of the powers they held within them. Different catastophes set them on their paths to Hunter, and he must help them see past their differences and their pasts in order to work together to survive. The bloodline of a god lives on in heroes.
